The final chapter
More info and pictures at a later date, but to bring the blog up to speed: we spent 3 days in Rio to restock and rest, and set out 3 days later - to which we returning 4 hours later after a gale blew from the south. Our second attempt was a little more successful, and we got as far as Vitoria, 300 miles north, until further bad weather forced us in to port. There we spent 5 or 6 days at anchorage over christmas, waiting for fairer weather. We left on the 27th for the final passage in to Salvador, a 500 mile leg which we completed in 7 days.
After rangling for 8 hours, over 2 days, with policia federal to grant us visas, we were finally given 6 days, to which we spent 3 in Salvador and 3 in Itaparica, a nearby island.
And here the story splits, because I am writing this from Buenos Aires. I decided to end the sailing adventure, and continue the south american one, by departing the mighty Rebel. I flew in to Buenos Aires yesterday.
A quick summary of our future plans: John is planning to sail the 2500 mile leg to Tobago solo next week, spend 6 weeks sampling the rum, then sail the long passage home to England, with the aim of a May arrival. I plan to spend an indefinate period in Buenos Aires, learning spanish and working.
Theres lots more to tell and show of the last two months, which i will endeavour to write in the next few days, and i plan to keep the blog updated with Johns progress back to British waters.
