Porto Santos
Hey Y'all,
Yesterday afternoon we sailed in to Porto Santos (part of the Madeira Islands, Portoguese, 450 miles south west of mainland) and dropped the anchor (for the first time). We had a fantastic sail from Lisbon - 10 to 20 knots of wind from the north and we rarely dropped below 6 knots.
Porto Santos is the smaller of the two inhabited islands of Madeira, population 4000. John's on the boat doing jobs so I was sent off as the scout party, so you'll have to put up with just me for now. No photos at the mo (didn't really expect to find this internet cafe to be honest). Just had a quick stroll around the town, looks lovely - palm trees, 35 degrees, warm seas.
We expect to be here for a few days - we're kind of anchored in a marina at the moment which we found out costs 8 euros a day, so I think tomorrow we´ll motor round the corner and drop the anchor at the beach. Should be at a swimmable distance to the sand. Once we've sampled all of Porto Santos it's a day sail to the main island (that would be Madeira), and perhaps explore the uninhabited Savage Islands. In total we expect to spend a fortnight here.
That's all for now - more details in the next couple of days once we've had time to explore.
Nick out.

Hello boys,
As it's now below 30c here we've decided en masse to fly out to Madeira and expect to be put up on Rebel for a couple of weeks. That's about 12 of us, ok?
Sounds fine, John sleeps on the foredeck anyway so there's loads of room.
